New Releases at the 2007 Toledo RC Symposium
RC enthusiasts get very excited this time of the year with the Toledo RC show coming on April 13th through April 15th. “What are going to be the hot new products released at Toledo?” Well, 2007 will be remembered for a couple of things that are making huge changes in radio control system technology. Everyone is talking about the new 2.4GHz technology systems, and JR Radios won’t let anyone down with their announcement. New airplanes are better now than ever, with an even greater selection of models that will keep you smiling when you think of all the choices. Horizon Hobby will be showing some exciting new items at Toledo that are creating a huge amount of interest that you should know about.
FIRST!
JR 2.4GHz Programmable Systems
JR is pleased to announce two new pro-class, programmable aircraft systems—the 9-channel X9303 2.4 which is coming this summer, followed by the 12-channel 12X this fall. Both will feature all the software sophistication JR is known for, PLUS the no-pins, no-crystals, no-glitches convenience and security of proven DSM2™ 2.4GHz technology by Spektrum™.
JR
JR X9303 With DSM2 2.4GHz Technology JRP2910 (Air) JRP2920 (Heli)
At last. The 2.4GHz radio the world’s been waiting for.
This is the big WOW! No module here! DSM2 2.4GHz radios have taken over as the standard for RC, but the top-end JR X9303 brings every desired feature for every type of model to the RC enthusiast plus the features that only 2.4GHz systems can provide. The 9-channel, 30-model memory, 3-model type 9303 has become a standard for measuring the performance of RC radios. Incorporating DSM2 2.4GHz, JR has also added ModelMatch and Servo Sync—among other features that only a dedicated ground-up design can provide. Everyone has been holding their breath for this one and JR brings it to you with flight-proven performance.
JR 12X 12-Channel DSM2 2.4GHz Aircraft System—Available Fall ’07
Big-scale and jet modelers as well as anyone else flying complex applications will love the new JR 12X.
The pro-class 12X will combine airplane and heli programming in a single transmitter. All programming functions will be easily adjusted using JR’s exceptionally intuitive Rolling Selector input system. Plus, its big, high-resolution dot matrix display will allow you to see the adjustments you make with absolute clarity.
Hangar 9
¼ Scale Cub J-3 ARF HAN4550
¼ Scale Cub J-3 PNP HAN4575
Another Big WOW. Hangar 9 has gone to great lengths to design its new quarter-scale Cub with great accuracy. Opening door panels. Tubular construction for the top fuse contour. Fin to fuse fillet molding. Scale wheels and working landing gear. Posable scale pilot figure in the cockpit. Realistic interior, including seating, dash and a Piper Cub emblem on the tach. The new ¼-Scale Piper J-3 Cub ARF is designed and engineered with the scale admirer in mind.
It’s especially friendly to first-time large-scale pilots because of its smooth flight characteristics and its convenience. Collapsible struts attach to the wing using a pivoting pin and keeper. No screws or glue is needed, so you can transport and store the plane easily. The Cub can be flown using a glow or gas engine or even an electric motor with a slight conversion. A pilot can even add ¼-scale floats so he can take off and land on water.
The J-3 Cub is also available as a Plug-N-Play ARF.
Hangar 9’s ¼-Scale Piper J-3 Cub PNP offers the same realistic look and smooth flying performance of the ARF version, but also includes a factory-installed Zenoah® G20ei gas engine and servos. The lightweight G20ei has an impressive power-to-weight ratio that ensures smooth, lengthy flights. All a pilot has to do is plug in his own receiver, bolt on a prop, fill the fuel tank, and he’s ready to go.
35% Extra 260 ARF HAN1000
Hangar 9 thrives on giving giant-scale enthusiasts something to smile about. And there’s no question that the pursuit of happiness leads to the new 35% Extra 260 ARF.
It’s a no-holds-barred thoroughbred ready for true precision and 3D aerobatic performance. Competition pilot Mike McConville’s completely optimized design ensures unsurpassed precision maneuvers such as axial rolls and snap rolls. The Extra 260 has low wing loading and exceptional aileron authority at low speeds. Couple it with an Evolution 116GX2 gas engine, and there’s no doubting the Extra 260’s high-powered scale aerobatic skills.
The 35% Extra 260 ARF comes highly prefabricated—very unusual in the giant-scale market. Most of Hangar 9’s giant-scale hardware is either included or preinstalled, such as the fuel tank, hinges and control horns. Even the hinge lines are factory-sealed. The lightweight balsa-and-ply airplane also features genuine UltraCote covering in McConville’s signature trim scheme and a prepainted fiberglass pilot figure to match it.
Sundowner Formula 1 ARF HAN4500
Hangar 9’s new IMAA-legal Sundowner Formula 1 ARF is a fast, sleek, agile sport-flying plane with an aggressive racing body design that looks like it’s hitting 100 mph just resting on the tarmac. Whether it’s streaking full-throttle down low on the deck or tearing into a turn at 130 mph, the Sundowner looks and handles like a million bucks. The Sundowner’s streamlined design makes the plane smooth, precise and easy to roll. It’s an aerobatic sport model, perfect for entry-level large-scale racing.
The 1.80-size Sundowner is designed for a variety of gas and glow engines, but it can also be converted to electric power. It’s easy to store and transport, because of its convenient two-piece plug-in wing. High-quality giant-scale hardware and carbon fiber wing tubes are lightweight, but very durable. It’s wrapped in attractive UltraCote, and a prepainted pilot figure, complete with racing helmet, comes factory-installed in the cockpit.

P-38/F-5E Lightning 400 ARF EFL6025
The P-38 Lightning was one of the Allied Force’s most capable reconnaissance aircraft during World War II. Their speed and maneuverability allowed their pilots to fly deep behind enemy lines without escort to obtain vital battlefield intelligence. E-flite’s new replica is based on an F-5 variant that served in the European theater during the invasion of Normandy. Factory-finished details include invasion stripes, appropriate squadron markings, removable drop tanks, scale elevator mass balance and much more. All that’s left is about 2 to 4 hours of minor assembly and electronics installation to get flying, making the E-flite P-38/F-5E Lightning 400 ARF one of the most detailed P-38 models ever available.

The new Edge 540 BP 3D ARF is very versatile and an excellent combination of the best elements of electric park flyers and extreme 3D performance planes. It’s a durable balsa/ply profile plane small enough to be easily stored and transported to the park or flying field. Assembly is simple, as it comes out of the box 90% complete. It looks great with its UltraCote finish and features predrilled holes for mounting the control horns (which are included, along with the pushrods).
Diamante 25E ARF EFL4050
The new Diamante 25e ARF from E-flite goes exactly where you want it to go. It’s neutrally stable in all axes and performs precision aerobatics perfectly. It’s also extremely resistant to accelerated stalls. Construction is lightweight balsa and plywood with a custom Peter Goldsmith “diamond” UltraCote trim scheme. And the fiberglass cowl and wheel pants come painted from the factory.
